Adult Day Programs
ACCESS (Alternative Community Connections, Experiences, and Social Supports) & Adult Developmental Activities (ADA) provide a variety of activities to enhance personal and social lives of participants.
Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; some evenings & weekends available
Location: Offices at 2525 Charlestown Rd., New Albany, IN; programming on-site and other community locations
Population Served: Adults with Intellectual and developmental disabilities
Services Provided: Services and hours of participation are individualized based on Individual Support Plan goals
Payer Sources: Medicaid Waiver, Residential Providers, OBRA funds, & private pay
Fees: Based on Medicaid rates
Referral Sources: Community members, family,
medical providers, school personnel, BDDS office
Habilitation Services
Adult Developmental Activities (ADA) and ACCESS are person-centered programs. This means that each person gets to participate in the program aspects he or she chooses. The activities and curriculum are varied, individualized, and goal-oriented to encourage each individual to live a full, meaningful life at their highest potential. Participants gain knowledge in daily living skills such as cooking and personal hygiene, increase social skills, express themselves through arts and crafts, and have access to a variety of educational activities. Some may love to work in the art studio while others prefer going on community outings and helping others through volunteer activities.
The ADA and ACCESS programs differ in the types of services and care required by participants. ADA is designed for adults who have been diagnosed with the most significant disabilities, which could be physical, mental, and/or behavioral. ADA clients participate in activities to build skills including developing skills related to activities of daily living, and establishing good behaviors.
ACCESS is designed for adults with less significant disabilities. These individuals take part in full-day and half-day trips to local museums, attractions, parks, and retail establishments. Small group and one-on-one community activities help strengthen the participant's ties to the community and give them the opportunity to speak and act on their own behalf.
