Jon combs

Jon combs

Individual Honoree: Jon Combs

Jon lives in Salem and began vocational services with Blue River in 1991.  He has been working in the community since 1995 – first at Papa John’s and at JayC’s as a bagger for the past 12+ years.  Jon has become a vital member of the JayC team with the staff there looking forward to the days he is working.   This position allows him to socialize with members of the community whom he greets with a smile and a hug.  Jon is active in 2 churches and as actively participates in consumer council meetings where he is a leader among his peers and advocates for those that cannot advocate for themselves.  He is a man of high moral values and influences those around him through his solid character.  He has taught his peers, staff and family that perseverance is the key to success….for Jon never stops pursuing his dreams until they are achieved.  Jon was nominated by Tammy Seitz.

Community Leader Honoree: Greg Smith

Greg began working in group homes for individuals with disabilities in 1986.   Outstanding attributes of Greg are that he sees each person as an equal and recognizes their gifts.  Greg believes that each person is important and deserves to be a part of their community so he works to take people places so that they may participate in life the same as everyone else.  He leads by example and has a strong commitment to each individual with whom he works.  Greg has served at his church and volunteered his clown services in the community.  Greg has a loving and welcoming nature which was summed up by Mark, one of his past clients, “Greg is always smiling and in good spirit, he is always there for you.”  Greg was nominated by Donna Riley.

Rauch’s Angels

Rauch’s Angels

Business/Organization Honoree: Rauch’s Angels Motorcycle Club

Members of multiple local motorcycle clubs joined together to support the residents of Rauch’s homes in the Hawthorn Glen subdivision – this combination of clubs was anointed Rauch’s Angels.   Realizing that not all of the residents had family with whom to share the holidays, the Angels stepped in to make sure that each of the 40+ residents received 2-4 presents each of the past two Christmases.  Presents are distributed at a holiday party for which the Angels provide food, games, activities and entertainment.   Rauch’s Angels also have created a summer block party for the residents which is a fun event enjoyed by all.   Their love and unconditional support have made a dramatic and positive impact on the lives of the residents in the Rauch Supported Living program.  Rauch’s Angels were nominated by Jeremiah Divine.
